Problem space Inseli-Park and dockyard footbridge
Located in beautiful and prominent position, Inseli-Park and its dockyard footbridge are strongly stigmatized as a fear-causing public space although it is close to the city center and just 400 meters away from the station, 100 meters away from KKL, hithe, a new university building and a part from Fachhochschule. The parks adjacent dockyard footbridge provides access to the local recreation area "Ufschöti".
With AMBIENT GUIDANCE, the reasons for origination of fear, uncertainty and dread were analyzed with sceneries and the STEEP-scheme and possible changes (in the close context) were acquired. According to the new requirements, expertise was evaluated for further planning. Preparatory work has shown that numerous artistic weaknesses, partly correlating with each other, exist. In the right column, stipulated weaknesses of the case study are shown.

Problem areas of the case study
Identity and communication – public space needs a clear image for communication and position. If this is not provided, the space it will be hard to communicate and it can be stigmatized indiscriminately.
Influences of mood (light, sound and smell) – insufficient light concept creates dark slots what creates fear and fraud.
Concept for plantation – opulently concepts for greening, particularly in entrance and waterside, cause bad view.
Guidance – unclear entrances and insufficient guidance are not welcoming. Additionally, the information is not internationally understandable (what is necessary for a touristic place).
Utilization concept – analysis shows that missing or non-obvious utilization concept aids use of third parties. In this case it is gay meeting point at the public restroom, mobbing and loud youth, meeting point for alcoholics.
Cultivation – instead of diverse repressive actions through SIPP and the police, the building of a restaurant with public restroom attached would be convenient due to the central location and the evaluated needs. This causes natural social control, boosts desirability of the space, casts out stigmata and additionally creates jobs.
The dockyard footbridge aka THE SUSTAINABLE POWER BRIDGE
The dockyard footbridge as the park offers several characters that create fear and fraud, insufficient guidance, bad view, narrow or no means of escape as well as insufficient light concept.
The new construction, a bridge that saves energy by passing it and supports the parks infrastructure is not only a visual highlight but also helps to let fear and fraud disappear. Additionally the bridge can become a tourist attraction, landmark and innovative transfer for the surrounding universities.
